Best in class – here’s why

[NOTE] At the time this review was written, this device had only been for sale since December 2016 and reviews for 3 completely different models were all mixed up together. So to be clear, this review refers ONLY to the AcuRite Pro model AcuRite 01083M Pro Accuracy Temperature & Humidity Monitor

LIKES

1. Small physical size but large easy to read primary displays
2. Well-designed hole for hanging plus 2 strong magnets. NO fold-out easel stand but wide flat base allows it to stand up pretty well
3. Setup controls are not too complicated
4. Smaller digital readout of temperature and humidity history. The temperature one is for the past 24 hours, the humidity one can be switched from past 24 hours or lifetime (until the battery is replaced at which time it resets).
5. Comfort zone scale is somewhat useful and easy to understand

NOT SO GREAT

The largest display is humidity and the smaller one is temperature. Some people, including me, would prefer to have them reversed. It would cost nothing for them to make this a setup option, it makes no sense why the designers didn’t realize that

Note that there is no clock function whether visible or not. That means that you can’t choose when the 24 hour cycle begins/ends for recording daily highs and lows. For example if you insert the batteries at 3:48 PM that’s when the 24 hour recording cycle will begin. You can trick the design by waiting until midnight to insert the batteries if you want to know the history for a true 24 hour cycle

This is a simple temperature/humidity reader, there are no clocks, remote sensors, alerts, alarms or anything else. For my purpose of monitoring the room temperature and “comfort” level of humidity in my bedroom none of those mattered, I bought this because it was exactly what I need.

ACCURACY

A thermometer is worthless if it’s not accurate. Unfortunately the vast majority of thermometers being made these days are pure junk, sometimes nowhere even close to being accurat
