A bargain for a heavy duty gas range
Bought this through a local appliance store, not via Amazon. Got an amazing deal on this range. Initial impressions are of clearly good quality. The burners on the top front are Sabaf Series 1 Burners made in Italy. The burners on the top back are German, extremely finely made but no indication of the original supplier. The convection fan is German. Other parts are Spanish. Yes, the stove is made and assembled in China, and there are some flaws. E.g. there are fingerprints on the *inside* of the double pane glass of the door. Slightly annoying but apparently you can take the door off, take it apart and clean this glass. Anyway that is a minor cosmetic problem. Also, the oven racks are a bit shoddy and catch on the sides halfway when pulling out. Again, a bit annoying, but fairly minor. Maybe I can get that replaced.
Everything on the stove works as advertised. The griddle can be used as a gentle warming tray or bread proofing spot or as a very hot restaurant-grade griddle. The temperature control for the griddle is accomplished easily and accurately, with a simple knob. The burners are hotter than our old gas stove, but can go down to a lovely low simmer (the back two). I did some testing of the oven with a digital thermometer. The oven reaches temperature in about 10 minutes and holds steady +/- 25 or 30 degrees F. It baked bread just perfectly.
The broiler got very hot fairly quickly but switched off automatically after about 25 minutes, possibly due to some kind of safety mechanism. This was a test, so it was not an issue with cooking. I called the toll free number and was assured that free service under warranty would be available if any problems arose. In fact the next time I used the broiler it worked great, but it stopped after that and would not light or get hot. I called the 1-800 number and after a week or two a technician arrived and installed a new igniter for the broiler free of charge and now it works again. I hope this is the last item we have t
